PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN MOURNS VICTIMS OF LAGOS PLANE CRASH

President Goodluck Jonathan mourns victims of Lagos plane crash.The President, who has also ordered for full investigation of the crash by the relevant agencies, was said to have been ‘shocked’ on receiving the news of the incident, which occurred when an Akure-bound Associated Airline aircraft carrying the family and relatives as well the corpse of former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Agagu had crashed while taking off leaving 12 dead.On behalf of himself, his family and the Federal Government, President Jonathan extends condolences to all families who lost their loved ones in the plane crash, and the government and people of Ondo State who have been plunged into sorrow yet again while preparing to lay their former governor to rest.

BREAKING NEWS:PLANE CRASH IN LAGOS

LAGOS  - A plane with 20 people on board suffered engine failure on Thursday 3rd October 2013, shortly after takeoff in Lagos, crash-landing near an airport fuel depot and killing at least eight people

The Associated Airlines charter flight took off at roughly 9:30 am (0830 GMT) from the domestic terminal at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

“It was going to Akure (in the southwest). The engine failed on takeoff and it crash-landed and burst into flames.

 National Emergency Management Agency  reported that “eight bodies” had been recovered so far, with another person being treated for serious injuries.

“The rescue operation is still on.

Another NEMA spokesman said that the plane crashed in an area within the airport complex where fuel is stored.

The area lies between the international and domestic terminal, he added, but it was yet unclear if the fuel caught fire.
